Mountaineering education
Intermediate Mountaineering Course of HFMC, Mountaineering Assistant Instructor Course of HFMC, Mountaineering Instructor Course of HFMC.
George is a qualified national Mountain Guide and Mountaineering Instructor with over 25 years of mountaineering experience. He has climbed and explored extensively in the Greek mountains and has made many new rock and winter climbs. He has also travelled and climbed over the world including expeditions of first ascents in the Himalayas, Hindu Kush, Pamir, Andes and Africa. In 2004 he was the first Greek mountaineer who climbed Mount Everest.
He has worked in the Outdoors for most of his life; initially as a mountain leader in adventure activities companies and as an instructor at his local mountaineering club. He is technical adviser for the Greek Mountaineering and Climbing Federation since 1998 and he has the responsibility for mountaineering training and qualifications in Greece.
He has written many articles on mountaineering and published a two volume technical guidebook called “The Art of Mountaineering” in cooperation with C. Beloyiannis, furthermore has written the technical guidebook “Mountain Hiking: handbook for mountain leaders”. He has contributed to a guidebook for the mountains of central Greece, published by “Anavasis”.
Areas of particular expertise include: mountaineering (summer, winter, alpine,
expeditions, high altitude), rock climbing (single and multi-pitch), caving, hiking, outdoor management, mountaineering qualifications (training and assessment courses), care and supervision.
He has a degree in Political Science from Athens University and a master degree from St Andrews University, Scotland.
He speaks English.
