Giannakoulis Loukas

Loukas Giannakoulis was born in Livadia and studied in the elementary and high school of the area.

His inclinations towards life began to appear from an early age. As for his science, he was fascinated by the work of his father who was an engineer and so later he studied architecture in Thessaloniki. At the same time, in his high school years, the close contact with nature and Mount Parnassos pushed him to explore, sometimes daring. Up to the point, his father appointed him a “companion” to pay close attention to him. At this age, his first searches with motorcycles and generally anything motorized began. Stealthy “motorbike” rides of the time were his fun when he was not reading or walking around the mountains.

His great loves grew with him. Lucas developed an important mountaineering activity when he moved to Athens with his family. With EOS Athens in 1985 he participated in the tragic first pan-Hellenic mission to Annapurna South. Later, in 1987, during his studies, he participated in a mission in Huascaran, Peru with the Mountaineering Club of Thessaloniki, making the first Greek ascent. At the same time, he made many new routes in Greece and repeated many important routes in the Alps and Greece. In 1987 he was named EOOA Mountaineering Instructor, in 1993 EOOA Greek Mountain Guide and in 2005 IFMGA Mountain Guide. From 2003 to 2007 he was a member of the Board. of SEOB as president and vice president.

At the same time, of course, his other great love, motor sports, erupted along the mountain. After two years of systematic preparation, he took part in the legendary Paris-Dakar race in 2004 in a Honda XR 400 and became the first Greek to finish (along with the other driver of the team who finished in a better position) the entire route.
In recent years he has continued with races of classic cars and motorcycles. An incredible accident with his classic Porsche was the reason for him to leave us.

But Luke’s greatest love was his family. Married to his wife Maria, he had three sons whom he initiated, as soon as he could, into the joys of the mountain.
